Summer Isles Foods
In the 1970's Keith Dunbar and his wife Sheila fell in love with Achiltibuie during a holiday to the Summer Isles Hotel. It was there that they met Robert Irvine and decided to establish a smokehouse to produce fine local smoked produce.
From humble beginnings as a small smokehouse for the local hotel Summer Isles Foods the business expanded and has now moved to larger smokehouse premises at Alness on the east coast, where it continues to produce a range of speciality foods in the traditional manner. It is that accumulated experience and the use of really fresh fish and meats which helps to ensure consistent quality on the plate.
Over the years Summer Isles Foods has produced classic smoked salmon and smoked produce. Recent additions to the delicious range include hot-smoked salmon cutlets, Organic smoked salmon, and Peat-smoked salmon. While expanding the range of products, the quality of the old favourites remains excellent with customers all over the world appreciating the traditional quality of Summer Isles Foods.
Achiltibuie to Alness
No hustle, no bustle. Achiltibuie, resting on the edge of Scotland's north-west coast, is a community made up of crofters, fisherman and warm hearted people.
This remote and beautiful location and the availability of top quality local produce inspired the evolution of Summer Isles Foods which is continuing now at Alness using the same traditional techniques of brine curing and slow smoking which produce such appealing products.
